Novalis Innovative Flooring was honored at Guangzhou Design Week in Guangzhou, a Chinese city of almost 12 million people. Novalis received the Kapok Award for its AVA® commercial luxury vinyl flooring. Over 1,000 products competed for the award during the Dec. 3 – 5 event.
“We wanted an attention-getting display for our new AVA® product,” observed John Wu, president and CEO of Novalis. “Our designers certainly achieved that with a skateboard course right in our booth!” Hundreds of visitors gathered to watch skateboard athletes showcase the beauty and demonstrate the durability of AVA®. Both AVA SNSE®, a bold color tile line aimed at the education and healthcare markets and AVA DSGN®, planks for the retail and hospitality sectors, were used to create the course.
For 9 years, Guangzhou Design Week has been the annual B2B Expo influencing over one million building professionals across China and is known every year as the “largest annual commercial activity in the Chinese design industry”.
Novalis Innovative Flooring also sponsored “RESET™ Certified: Building data meets social data” presented by Raefer Wallis, founder of GIGA: An internationally recognized team of architects promoting green building in China.
RESET is the world’s first project certification to focus on the health of people in buildings. According to GIGA, this issue is important when considering people spend, on average, 90% of their time indoors.
“Our core principle at Novalis is the creation of a better environment, inside and out,” said John Wu, president and CEO of Novalis. “Promoting GIGA and the education of our next generation of designers at events like this are big opportunities for us.”
Wallis’ presentation was about the merger of building data and social data and the transition of thinking of buildings not just as “green buildings” but also as “healthy buildings.”
